Teams from seven European countries will compete in the Olympic rugby sevens during the first edition of the Krakow Sevens tournament. At Juvenia and NHRK stadiums, under 19th players will compete for the Cup of the President of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski. The tournament will be a good opportunity for fans – to know and fall in love with rugby. For players it will be a chance to gain experience in matches with international competition.
Eight male and five female teams will come to Krakow this Friday afternoon to compete on on two pitches for the victory in Krakow Sevens. The tournament is organized with the support of the City of Krakow, which has been observing Juvenia’s activities for years and has decided to support the idea of organizing an international rugby 7’s competition in their home city.
Fans who will arrive on Saturday September 14th and Sunday 15th at the Juvenia Kraków facility will be able not only to watch international competition, but also to use the catering and fan zone.
Teams from Poland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Ukraine and Austria will compete on the pitch. Danish Federation brings two national teams, which wants to also compete in Dubai Sevens in December. Lithuanians have a team in both categories, and they can be very difficult opponent because, like in Krakow, they have a rugby academy in Vilnius that trains young people as part of their normal school education.
“In the last two years we have dominated the junior categories in Poland, so it’s time to start looking for opponents outside the country. If we want to be better and better, we have to play in international tournaments, and the opportunity to organize it in our own city, on our pitch, gives additional motivation! We want to build the tournament brand but also stand up as a team! – admitted Łukasz Kościelniak, coach of Krakow’s Dragons.
