Not everyone can win the President’s Cup and not everyone can play for it. The Krakow Sevens tournament has a great partner, which is the City of Krakow. The idea to organize international competition in the Olympic rugby sevens, was noticed and appreciated by the City of Krakow. Thank to that, he tournament gained an important partner, and participants will be able to fight for the Cup of the President of the City of Krakow.
Krakow is known in Poland and in the world as a city of culture and science. For years, however, it has also been an important sports center on the map of Poland. One of the three oldest clubs in the city is Juvenia Kraków (same like Wisła and Cracovia founded in 1906). Rugby is the most important sport in the club since late 80′ and in the recent years the club could be extreemly proud with its youngsters, who won multiple Polish championships.
“The number one inspiration to support the organization of such a tournament is of course Juvenia’s younsgerts results. The president and people involved in sports in the City Hall are impressed how the club works with young people. I think that if we manage to keep these young athletes in the senior team, they will be the future of Polish rugby. As a city, we want to have our share in building this strength” – said Janusz Kozioł – Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Krakow for the Development of Physical Culture.
“Development is progressing faster if we are confronted with better than ourselves and although Poland is still learning rugby, we are ready for the next steps. We could see it during last year’s Dubai Sevens tournament, where Juvenia’s rugby players showed they are capable to fight against theoretically much stronger sites and achieved their first victories in clashes with very demanding competition. Observing them, we decided that it was time to support the organization of such a tournament – he added.
The city hopes that Krakow Sevens will be a long-term project that will permanently enter the calendar of important sporting events in Krakow and will attract more and more teams from around the world. That is why the President decided to fund the main trophy and support Juvenia financially and organizationally with this project.
